Who We Are

Sir Terry Leahy

Founder & Chairman

Tesco PLC (CEO, 1997–2011). During his 14-year tenure as Chief Executive, Sir Terry transformed Tesco from a domestic supermarket chain into the third-largest retailer in the world by revenue. He quadrupled group sales from £13.9 billion to £62.5 billion, grew EBITDA from £1.1 billion to £4.7 billion, and increased the company's market capitalisation from £8 billion to £35 billion. He expanded Tesco's UK market share from 20% to over 30%, and led the company's international expansion across Europe and Asia. He pioneered the Tesco Clubcard loyalty programme — one of the most successful customer data initiatives in retail history — and expanded the business into financial services, telecoms and online retail.

Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (Senior Adviser, 2011–present). Sir Terry has served as a Senior Adviser to CD&R LLP, a leading private equity firm, since 2011 — joining a roster that has included Jack Welch (former Chairman of General Electric) and A.G. Lafley (former Chairman of Procter & Gamble). In this role, he advises portfolio companies on operational and strategic issues and assists in evaluating investment opportunities.

B&M Retail (Chairman, 2012–2017). Sir Terry was appointed Chairman of B&M Retail in December 2012, having been brought in by CD&R LLP. During his five-year tenure, he steered the discount retailer through a successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange. Under his chairmanship, B&M's revenues grew from £993 million to £2.7 billion, and the store portfolio nearly tripled from 331 to 893 locations.

Motor Fuel Group (Director and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Board, 2015–present). Sir Terry joined the board of Motor Fuel Group in June 2015 on completion of CD&R's acquisition of the business from Patron Capital. He has chaired the Executive Committee of the Board since MFG acquired MRH in February 2018 creating the UK's largest independent forecourt operator. During his tenure, MFG has grown from approximately 373 sites to over 1,200 and now operates the UK's largest open ultra-rapid EV charging network, passing 1,000 ultra-rapid charging bays in July 2025.

Morrisons (Chair, 2021–present). Sir Terry was appointed Chair of Morrisons in October 2021 following CD&R's acquisition of the business. Sir Terry led the investment process and oversaw its orderly transition from public to private ownership. Morrisons operates approximately 500 supermarkets, over 1,000 convenience stores and employs around 100,000 people. In FY24 the supermarket chain generated £19.7 billion of revenue.

David Leahy

Investment Partner

David has spent over a decade investing across private and public markets. His private equity career has taken in Livingbridge and Gresham House, alongside public markets experience at Gresham House and a boutique hedge fund. He began his career at a consumer goods start-up, where working closely with the founding team gave him an early, hands-on understanding of how companies are actually built and run.

That grounding shapes his approach. David is genuinely fascinated by how businesses work, holds a deep admiration for truly great ones, and has profound respect for the management teams and operators who build them. His focus is on backing and building high-quality businesses over the long term — companies worth being proud of.

Rob Apollo

Investment Partner

Rob has a rare combination of investor, non-executive and operator experience in UK mid-market private businesses. Following a successful period as a private equity investor at Bridgepoint and Lloyds Development Capital ("LDC"), Rob joined Lucid Group, a LDC investee company, where he oversaw an M&A program which was the key driver in transforming the business from a UK medical communications specialist into a global, multi-capability leader in pharma commercialisation services, delivering 7x growth in revenues during his tenure.

Despite successful outcomes achieved as an investor and operator, Rob has experienced first-hand how fund structures can constrain even well-intentioned PE owners – with short-termism resulting in management distraction, cost cutting and missed investment opportunities. Rob is passionate about providing an alternative capital proposition that is better aligned to supporting outstanding management teams to build exceptional businesses and achieve their full potential over the long-term.

Hazel Cameron

Operating Advisor

Hazel is a senior private equity and venture capital investor and non-executive director, with over 30 years' experience, including roles at 3i, LDC, Bridges Ventures, Growth Capital Partners and Gresham House, among others.

Alongside her investment work, Hazel has spent the past two decades supporting portfolio companies on organisational design, leadership development and senior recruitment — working closely with management teams and boards to build the structures and capabilities that enable businesses to scale.

At Maia, Hazel works alongside management teams of partner businesses to strengthen leadership, design scalable organisational structures and introduce talent from her extensive network of senior operators and non-executives.

Jon Bloor

General Counsel

Jon is in-house legal counsel for Maia. Prior to moving in-house, Jon spent over 20 years at national and regional law firms advising on private equity investment, M&A and wider corporate work. His experience spans the full transactional lifecycle from early-stage investment and growth capital through to management buy-outs and exits as well as advising companies on commercial agreements, banking, intellectual property and general corporate law.

Jon has worked with clients across a wide range of sectors, with a particular focus on software and technology businesses. His breadth of experience is ideally suited to Maia's long-term, partnership-led approach with a focus on getting the legal structure right at the outset so that it can evolve with portfolio companies through the growth, bolt-ons and realisation phases that follow.
